Cheating usually falls into two categories; flings or affairs. A fling is described as a short period of unrestrained pursuit of one’s wishes or desires. The result commonly is a one night stand with the realization that the guilt is not worth the risk. A fling generally goes undetected, therefore causing no harm.

An affair however is ordinarily drawn out over time. Starting off based on strictly a sexual nature it can become more involved to include an emotional connection and attachment. Affairs, although rarely, can sometimes occur to a perfectly happy couple. More often than not though it is an indication of severe underlying problems in the relationship.

Men and women tend to commit adultery for different reasons. In general it is more common for a man to cheat because of superficial reasons. Women’s affairs represent a higher percentage of those who feel their marriage or relationship is in serious jeopardy already of ending.

Below is a list of the more typical reasons someone will cheat.

* Mid Life Crisis - Your partner may no longer feel attractive or desired. They may decide boosting their ego will solve the problem. Feeling the attraction of the opposite sex can be just the pick me up they need. They may even feel justified or deserving of an affair.

* Adrenaline Rush - There is nothing quite like the natural high one gets from indulging in something forbidden. Sneaking around and getting away with it could be your mates “perfect” way of achieving this.

* Revenge - Now the roles have reversed. You were caught cheating and your lover has decided that a liaison of their own is the best way to emotionally detach themselves from you.

* Opportunity - Sometimes opportunities present themselves in such a way that you end up doing things outside the realm of your character. A new co-worker, neighbor or mutual friend can come across as overtly friendly and decidedly flirty.

* Sex Life - The key to a perfect union is communication and a great sex life. You need to be able to express yourself both in and out of the bedroom. Discuss role play, fantasies and avoid being unadventurous. Variety is the spice of life, without it your partner can stray.
